Notice of Application for Approval – Oberon Biodigestor (on hold)

This project has been reprioritised and is currently on hold.

reDirect Recycling Pty Ltd propose to construct and operate a bio-digester that will accept putrescible organics, grease trap waste and industrial water treatment plant sludges. reDirect Recycling plan to lodge a formal development application for the project during the course of 2023.

The project is classified as State Significant Development in accordance with Section 23 (6) of Schedule 1 of the SEPP and thus will be assessed by the NSW Department of Planning and Environment.

The project will require construction of several large tanks, weighbridge, concrete yard and a 3000m2 building for receipt and or depackaging of all the organic materials.

reDirect Recycling aim to collect organic materials to be utilised in the proposed anaerobic digestion plant to create methane gas as a replacement for natural gas.

The proposed inputs for the digester:

  • 50,000 tonnes of food waste diverted from landfill
  • 10,000 tonnes of industrial liquid wastes
  • 5,000 tonnes of grease trap waste

The anaerobic digestion process also creates a nutrient rich liquid, digestate, that can be used in the composting process undertaken by Bettergrow (A Borg company) or used for application to agricultural land.

reDirect Recycling values the local community, and is asking for feedback or comments in relation to the proposal.

Major Project – St Marys

reDirect Recycling are proposing an increase to the throughput of an existing resource recovery facility at 25 Dunheved Circuit, St Marys. The proposal will facilitate the processing of 150,000 tonnes of waste per annum, consisting of 110,000 tonnes of suitable waste wood/timber, 30,000 tonnes of plasterboard and 10,000 of non-ferrous metal. The processing of wood/timber waste involves minimising or shredding for re-use in the manufacture of particleboard among other uses. Plasterboard is processed to generate gypsum for re-use in plasterboard production or for agricultural uses.

reDirect Recycling is dedicated to working with local communities to ensure that all residents are kept well informed, and are currently engaging with the public to inform and improve on the final development before it is submitted to the Department of Planning and Environment for assessment.

The community will also have an opportunity to provide feedback during the formal exhibition period after the EIS is submitted to the Department. The EIS will be exhibited for a minimum of 30 days.
